Zooming in on Family History

Zooming in on Family History is a wide-ranging chatty session where members can come along to ask for help with their research, brickwall or questions relating to using the online databases such as Ancestry and FindMyPast. Discussions also cover research techniques and problem-solving strategies, an excellent place for newcomers to family history to ask questions and learn the basics of tracing their ancestry.  Maybe you live outside Cheshire and want to dive into the rich history of the county or explore how local events, records, and geographic changes could  inform their family research.  The Group, which meets on the fourth Wednesday of month at 7:30pm is led by Margaret Roberts and Sheila Jones.

🏖️🧳 Childhood Holidays

Where did you go on holiday as a child? Was it an annual week at the seaside, staying with relatives, camping or caravanning or perhaps simply days out from home? Did the family pile into the car with sandwiches and a flask, or was the journey itself an adventure involving trains, coaches or even a ferry?

Think about holiday camps, boarding houses and B&Bs; buckets and spades; deckchairs and windbreaks; postcards sent home; rainy-day entertainments; amusement arcades; picnics with sand in the sandwiches; favourite souvenirs; holiday photographs; and those long car journeys when somebody inevitably asked, “Are we nearly there yet?” 🚗🍦📷

And, of course, holidays themselves are part of our family history. What did our parents and grandparents consider a holiday, and how did increasing prosperity, paid holidays and changing transport transform where ordinary families could go?
